The Mitchell
Mitchell Gallagher Weber & Southard P.C. name is a new one,
but the firm's roots extend back to 1946 when Jacob Neafie Mitchell
undertook the practice of law in Lycoming
County. Neafie Mitchell joined the Candor, Youngman & Gibson firm and
later, in 1964, he formed a partnership with Lester L. Greevy, Jr. and Daniel F.
Knittle that was known as Greevy, Knittle & Mitchell.
In 1976 Neafie Mitchell joined his son, C. Edward S. Mitchell in a partnership known as Mitchell & Mitchell. The firm concentrated then, as now, in civil litigation. Richard A. Gray joined the firm in 1976, as an associate. The professional corporation Mitchell, Mitchell & Gray was formed in 1980. Robert A. Gallagher was hired as an associate in 1981 after the conclusion of a clerkship with Judge Thomas Raup, and became a shareholder in the firm in 1987; the firm name was changed to Mitchell, Mitchell, Gray & Gallagher, A Professional Corporation.
Neafie Mitchell retired from the active practice of law in 1987, although he continued his association with the firm as "Of Counsel" until his death in 1996.
Gary L. Weber became associated with the firm in late 1985 after a clerkship with Judge Clinton W. Smith, and became a shareholder in January 1992. Bret J Southard transferred from a Pittsburgh firm in 1993, and became a shareholder in 1997. Rick Gray became Lycoming County Judge in January 2004.
Sean P. Roman arrived, as a shareholder, from The McCormick Law Firm in 2008. The present firm of Mitchell Mitchell Gallagher Weber & Southard, P.C. was formed February 2008. An associate, Rebecca Penn joined the firm later in 2008. She had clerked for Lycoming County Judge Kieser.
